Hundreds of people across BaNES have given their views on community health and care services in the area by taking part in the your care your way review being run by NHS Bath and North East Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group and Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The first phase of the two-year consultation launched in January with the aim of finding out what people think about the way community services are run and how they can be improved.
Since then hundreds of people have given their views at over 30 public events across BaNES attended by patients, service users, carers, volunteers, health and care professionals as well as community organisations which have a direct involvement or interest in the provision of community services.
The review has now entered Phase Two, which runs from May until October and will culminate with a formal consultation in September and October.
Members of the public still have time to give their views on services in various ways such as sending an email or a letter or submitting their views via social media.
Mike MacCallam, Senior Commissioning Manager working jointly for the CCG and the Council said:
“Whatever model of community services we have in the future, we want to be confident that we’ve given people the opportunity to influence what that model will be.
“It’s really important not to make assumptions about what people want and that’s why we’ve been giving people the chance to tell us what they think. We’ve had lots of great feedback from people who have attended the events and sent in their views. The most powerful stories we’ve heard have been the patient experiences and hearing about what really matters to them.”
So far the review has generated over 500 face to face conversations at public events and a further 800 interactions with the consultation website and through social media and email.
The main feedback from members of the public has been a request for more coordinated health and care services with an aspiration that people receive seamless and integrated care when they need it. This is particularly important for those with multiple and often complex health and care needs.
The ultimate aim of the review is to provide excellent health and care services in the community and enable people to live happier and healthier lives by providing timely intervention to prevent or delay ill health, reduce social isolation and tackle inequalities.
